Expand Your Art Horizons

Try Something Different!

Please watch this video from YouTube. You'll see art being made with makeup. I suggest trying this at home! Never get stuck in your same old art ways. Be different and most importantly, always keep learning from fellow artists. New art is everywhere!

Holy Hair!

Cosmetologists take a 'hairy situation' to the next level. In this picture, hair transforms into something of art. Hair is perfected within strenuous hours to be shown at a hair show. This was something I'd never heard of before, just until recently. There actually is a profession in which cosmetologists create hair art for a living.  Models are then entered into the hair shows, where the public can join. There are all types of hair shows. From wedding hair, to prom hair, these artists analyze every strand. Below is a photo of hair at a fantasy hair show. Interesting right? It looks like a lot of fun to be a model in that profession.

Body Electric

A Movement

My school was recently visited by the Body Electric Art Tour. This program allows for highschoolers  all across the U.S. to make art for this tour. Students have a potential chance to have their art travel from school to school on display for all to see. The art deals with areas of a teenager's life that could lead to possible harm. Artwork can range from a variety of topics. Such as drinking and drug abuse, relationship abuse, texting and driving, home-life situations, and even body image. The goal for this program is to influence students positively through the art. One piece of artwork could potentially change a life.

Guess Who?

Can you guess who this is? Why of course, the one and only Mona Lisa. This famous portrait is said to be one the most viewed, talked about, sung about, written about, and even parodied in the world. Without researching, most of you would've guessed who this was. If you did have to look into it, that's okay too. This recreation was done with mosaic tile. These specific tiles appear to be computer keys or buttons of such. Frequently, art of this kind uses vibrant and glossy tiles. Mosaic tiles can be used by arranging them into a pattern with a specific layout of color.  The colors together either give the illusion of something abstract or real. I find mosaic artwork very complicated, as you risk the overall look with just one tile. This type of art includes precision and patience. A tile could crack or break even with the slightest of movements. Mosaic art is a very tedious and rare expression of art. You won't see it everywhere.

Spray Paint Art

What's spray paint art? This form of art is traditionally done on cardboard, poster board, or any other type of non-porous material, such at wood. Spray paint artists often do work in a rhythmic and practiced way, also while allowing a freedom within the art. You may find this type of art on the street. Artists frequently 'perform' this art in the public. They tend to make art for those interested right on the spot. These so-called street artists can make easy money while entertaining a crowd and doing something they love. Check out this tutorial on spray paint art. This video is quick, but your eyes won't stray very far from the screen. I'm hoping one day I'll get the guts to try this out.

Ink it on!

Tattoos

By definition, a tattoo is a mark (upon a person or body part) with an indelible design by inserting pigment into punctures in the skin. In  my opinion, a tattoo is not just ink. A tattoo might be a symbol, statement of creativity, or even a story. In all ways, tattoos are a form of art. Tattoos range from small to large, with lots of color or not. They relate to a person in several ways. For example, you can actually tell characteristics of a person just through a tattoo. Some tattoos are wild or simple, but either way they stay forever. Many people get tattoos to express  symbolic meaning for a person or situation near to their heart. For example, portrait tattoos could be sentimental for various reasons. A loss of a loved one could make somebody want a tattoo of them. Also, animals, objects, and colors could represent much more than what meets the eye. On the contrary, some people get tattoos for little or no reason at all.  Someone might find a design that is just very appealing to them. In that case, you would have to be okay with seeing the design every single day for the rest of your life. Hopefully you consider the place and design of your tattoo, according to who you want to see it. If you work in the modeling industry, you might not be hired because of one of your tattoos. Although a tattoo can be temporarily covered with makeup, the initial sight of your tattoo might be enough to reject your employment. In my judgement, I find tattoos to be a very unique and interesting way to express yourself. Even if tattoos are painful,  I would consider getting myself a tattoo in the future. Below, you can see a variety of tattoos that I thought were cool!

Worth A Thousand Words

                  Text By: Kauryn Karmazinas

Recently, I got my hands on an edition of National Geographic that got me inspired. Although I don't normally jump for National Geographic as my go-to magazine, there was something about this particular one that fascinated me. This year's October issue was entirely focused on photography. For the 125th anniversary of National Geographic,  photographs were taken to a whole different level. Even though these pictures weren't the most extravagant and staged, they were some of the most interesting I've ever seen. These pictures weren't any old pictures, they all told me a story with one just look. Every image was packed full with the raw and natural beauty of world. For instance, people, places, animals, objects, and nature were left untouched. Before this magazine, I hadn't looked at things in such a way. Everything looked different; clearer, purer, better.  All that I would normally point out as a flaw, was not that way here. There was one thing that they all had in common, each picture was clear and vivid. The quality of these pictures weren't just average, they were absolutely stunning shots. As I skimmed the pages, each picture seemed to get better and better. But one especially caught my eye, the cover. The cover photo tells me a story. I see a girl completely unchanged, just herself. I don't actually know why I fell in love with this picture but, I was letting my imagination run free with a single glance. I couldn't exactly identify the expression on her face, but I could see a strength within her. She had a power, a certain confidence about the way she's holding her gaze. She's mysterious. Her eyes are are wild, almost scared. In all honesty, this picture isn't that magnificent. There is no action or movement, nothing really spectacular. Humans can read humans, and this girl's facial expression jumps at you. I could find several ways to hear her. Not literally of course, but I can find a voice of what she's telling me with just her eyes. Some people can't interpret a picture like this, but an artist can. To some people, she's just a girl. Just another picture. Another front cover. But an artist sees so much more. It takes photos like this to truly test what you see and what you don't. Art really is everywhere. If we keep open minds and open eyes to see art like this, the world will be a much cooler place.

Art&Fashion

Fashion is a form of art that captures the true realm of an artist's idea. Designers have a clear image in their mind, but sometimes have difficulty translating that into a two-dimensional way (paper, painting, etc). Somehow they have the capability to make a three-dimensional version instead. In fact, they transform this speck of an idea into a living, breathing, and walking art piece.  Fashion allows for an artist to express such ideas into physical articles. In doing so, society literally sees a piece of art, walking among the crowd. Fashion is always changing and I'm amazed by the true complexity of  this artistry. Below is a must-watch couture runway by Amato Haute. This work is really breathtaking. Enjoy!

Edible Art

Now, now. Edible art, I say? Well yes, food indeed can be art. If you take a look at the picture on the right, this turkey is definitely a tasting looking treat. If I would've just read the ingredients, I might not have been intrigued. Presentation is an important key in food culture.  If food looks good, by golly we're going to eat it. Use this festive recipe to get all ages gobbling for some more.

Oreo Cookie Turkeys
By: Pam-I-Am
Posted October 25, 2008

Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 0 minutes

INGREDIENTS

*24 Oreo double stuff cookies
*12 miniature peanut butter cups
*12 malted milk balls
*1 cup candy corn
*4 ounces chocolate frosting
*4 ounces white frosting
*red food coloring

DIRECTIONS

1. Place one cookie at the base. Put one teaspoon of  chocolate frosting on top.
2. Place one small peanut butter cup on its side so that the top and bottom are perpendicular to the base--and stuck in the frosting. Place a teaspoon of chocolate frosting on the top (widest part) of the peanut butter cup.
3. For the second cookie--Stick some candy corn into the Oreo's stuff along one edge for the feathers, pointy side down. They should fan out around the edge. If you have trouble doing this, you can help them stick with some white frosting.
4. Place this second Oreo cookie (the tail) on it's edge and sticking to a dab of brown frosting on the back of the peanut butter cup.
5. Place a dab of chocolate frosting on top of the peanut butter cup (for the head). Place a malted milk ball on top for the head.
6. Take a small amount of the white frosting in a separate dish. Mix in red food coloring.
7. Use a toothpick with the white and red colors to place eyes, and wattle. You can pinch off the small pointy top of a candy corn and dip it in brown frosting for the beak.
8. Your turkey is complete!

Enjoy!

Holiday Fun

Fashion With The Family

Hello parents of the world! Want ways to make the holidays fun? Need ideas without emptying your pocket? Thanksgiving is right around the corner! Celebrate with your family and friends in style. These fun ways to change up the holiday wardrobe will truly make your family's attire season worthy.

For a girl's outfit, keep color and pattern in mind. Transform an old onesie into the ultimate get-up. Add a skirt of tulle to give shape. The ballerina-like design will have everyone oohing and aahing over your little one. Use hot glue and an old headband to combine the two for a crafty hair accessory. Old tights in any season color can be cut to fit any pair of legs. They will be a triple threat for comfort warmth, and style. It's quick, easy, and adorable. The girls will love it and you won't be breaking the bank!

Ideas for the boy's outfit are just as simple! To go with an outfit like the one pictured below, start with seasonal ribbon and cut an appropriate length(for the boy's neck). Pinch the middle of the ribbon and wrap a piece half that size around it. Use a hot glue gun to glue the center. Wallah! Behold, the illusion of a costly bow tie. This darling accessory can be added to any type of outfit. Onesies, bibs, and even t-shirts will look cuter than ever. The boys will look handsome without dreading the formality of the holiday season.

Moms out there can go simple and classy for the holidays while still struttin' your stuff. Go for vibrant colors and bold patterns to keep a young glow. Add a cardigan to any favorite shirt of yours. This way you'll stay cozy without looking under-dressed. Wear a cute pair of jeans and some boots and you're good to go. Keep comfort and shape in mind because after all, you're the one who has to wear it!

Dads could go with a laid back look for Thanksgiving time. Jeans and a sweater should do the job. Maybe add a watch or coat for an effortless approach on this style. The guys out there should enjoy looking nice without forcing an over-dressed or under-dressed look.

Maybe even color coordinate the outfits for a family picture! Happy Holidays everyone!

Art Is Everywhere

Hi all! Welcome to my art blog! This first post is my trial and error post. I look forward to sharing my fascination of art with you! Confucius is quoted above in saying "Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it."  I totally agree with this. I believe that all things have the potential to be beautiful, just the right pair of eyes have to see it. Art is literally everywhere. You can find it in your daily lives! Buildings, food, nature, people, clothing, and even wildlife contribute to art. I hope my blog allows you to understand the true magnificence of the world in a language of color.
